About
Outbound is an open-world "cozyvival" adventure developed by Square Glade Games, scheduled for release in Q2 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch (including the Switch 2). Set in a utopian near-future, the game tasks players with transforming a basic, empty camper van into a fully sustainable mobile home. A free demo was released on Steam on February 17, 2026, offering a first look at the game's core loop of off-grid living and exploration.
Gameplay revolves around modular vehicle customization and eco-friendly resource management. Players must harvest energy from natural sources like solar panels, wind turbines, and water wheels to power their electric van's workstations and internal systems. The building system allows for extensive modifications both inside and on top of the vehicle, supported by a research tree that unlocks advanced technologies for refining materials. Players also manage a mobile garden to grow crops and mushrooms, which can be cooked into meals to maintain health and stamina.
The world features diverse biomes, ranging from sun-soaked coastlines to dense forests, all navigable solo or in online co-op with up to four players. A key feature is the inclusion of a customizable dog companion that can be taught to fetch resources and assist with exploration. While the game includes survival mechanics like hunger and energy management, it is designed as a low-pressure experience without traditional combat, focusing instead on the freedom of the road and the satisfaction of building a self-sufficient lifestyle.
