American Truck Simulator in February 2026 is celebrating its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of expansion that has now covered more than half of the United States. The game is currently in the 1.58 Open Beta phase, a foundational update that prepares the engine for "Project Road Trip," an upcoming mode that will introduce drivable cars and pickups alongside traditional big rigs. This technical shift includes a total rework of vehicle physics, featuring more realistic throttle torque, engine resistance for natural coasting, and a hill-start assistant.
The map has expanded significantly with the recent releases of Iowa (July 2025) and Louisiana (December 2025). As of early 2026, the community is anticipating the launch of Illinois and South Dakota, both of which are confirmed to be in active development for release later this year. Simultaneously, the "Route 66 Rework Project" has reached a major milestone, completely rebuilding iconic stretches of the historic highway across Arizona and New Mexico, including the addition of Lake Havasu City and full re-textures for cities like Flagstaff and Albuquerque.
Gameplay depth has been enhanced through the "Driving Academy," which recently added specialized modules for handling double trailers. The user interface has undergone its most significant transformation since launch, replacing the traditional fixed panels with a customizable, widget-based "Route Advisor" and a "Quick Info" pause screen that provides instant access to local regulations and truck status. Additionally, all player-owned garages have received a visual overhaul, featuring modern interiors and improved lighting to better reflect the player's progress as a transport tycoon.
Beyond official updates, the 2026 experience is bolstered by high-fidelity hardware support, including native compatibility with the latest eye-tracking technology and refined force feedback for the newest direct-drive truck wheels. While rumors of a "Great Lakes" state bundle circulate for 2027, the current 2026 focus remains on completing the Midwest corridor and refining the simulation's core physics to accommodate a broader range of vehicle types.
